made a move to connect
I could only stare in disbelief
as the crowds all left

Dustin M: Woodpile Cub

Posted in The Woodpile! with tags , , , , on April 27, 2008 by kurtgroder

What’s your name?: Dustin M.

Where are you from?: Davenport/Quad Cities, Iowa

How old are you?: 21

What’s your ethnic background?: From what I’ve been able to piece together, Dutch & German.

What do you do for a living? Do you like your job?: I proofread and “hotspot” testing materials for schools around the country. And yes, I enjoy my work - mostly because my roommates both work there as well.

What do you do for fun?: I haven’t had much time for fun lately as a result of my move back home, but I do enjoy video games as well as board games…role playing too. (D&D, etc) I play guitar & bass. Of course there’s the typical stuff too…movies, reading, shopping, going out to eat with friends, etc. In addition to all that, I’ve been working out 5-6x a week for awhile now.

Are you single?: No, I have a partner of 3 years.

You spent a lot of time in post-Katrina New Orleans. What happened?: This is a loooooong story! The absolute shortest version is that I met my partner in 2005 while I was on vacation. (he was living in Orlando at the time) I later persuaded him to visit me in Iowa. We eventually came to the conclusion that we didn’t want to be separated again and as we were trying to decide who should move, he got a call saying that his mother was dying in Louisiana and had about 6 days. He didn’t have anybody else by his side and I was transitioning from a bad “coming out” anyway, so I went with him for support. Anyway, we ended up staying to help his grandparents rebuild their home after Katrina.

Do you go to bear events? Hang out with cubs and bears?: I have yet to attend a bear run, but I’m just dying to! I’ve met so many great bears & cubs since coming out in ‘05 and I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for being welcomed into the community and all the support I’ve received from it.

What turns you on?: I’m a major sucker for salt & pepper hair. I like men to be direct, but respectful. When it comes to sex, I am pretty vanilla - but can get into role playing, some leather, poppers. Love giving and receiving oral more than anything. Consider myself more of a top, but I’ve recently started to find joy and extreme pleasure in being a bottom! My only limits I think would be fisting and the usual scat/extreme pain kinda stuff. I’d consider w/s, but only if I top for it. Pretty versatile and accommodating overall, I think. Nothing turns me on more than enthusiasm.

So, are you more the leather jacket or flannel shirt kind of guy?: I suppose more of the flannel shirt variety.

Are you an outdoors kind of guy?: Actually no, I’m really not into nature and being outside. I burn too easily for starters, and I wasn’t really raised to see the beauty in nature, I guess. Now, if I were with a really great guy or group of guys who did enjoy it, I would be willing to come along and give it a try.

I see you’re passionate about civil and gay rights? Are you active?: As much as I hate to admit it, I’m not nearly as involved as I feel I should be or that I want to be. I’ve lost jobs because of discrimination issues and I’m very close to a person who is HIV+, so I know how important it is to fight and spread awareness for these sorts of things. Now that I’m in a more comfortable living environment and I know some truly great people who are in organizations for gay rights…I may see about joining them and start doing my part.

Horror movies and video games. What character would you be?: Well, I know in Resident Evil I always wanted to be Chris because he was so damn hot. But if I had to choose from a movie I’d probably identify most with (and this is going to sound horrible) either Faye Dunaway’s portrayal of Joan Crawford in “Mommie Dearest” or “Baby Jane Hudson” from “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?”. I’m notoriously obsessive-compulsive and crazy when it comes to cleaning and organizing. My partner is the exact opposite. I think I must have made a big deal over something because he finally made me sit down and watch both movies. (He now regrets it.)

What will the future bring for you?: You know, all I really want is to be home, have a decent-paying job, a place of my own - a reasonably nice car and to have my partner by my side.

Give us a quote: “Don’t dream it…be it.”

Freestylin: I’d just like to thank Kurt for inviting me to do all this and everybody who has taken the time to read it.

I’m also on a bunch of bear sites, so if you see me around feel free to write. And please, if you have a MySpace account…add me! www.myspace.com/angelkub

Save the Bears!

Posted in Kurt's Cave Wall with tags , , , on April 22, 2008 by kurtgroder

Many bears are killed just for their gallbladders, which are used in traditional Asian medicines to treat a variety of illnesses. Although accepted alternatives exist in traditional medicines, demand for bear parts is soaring.

As Asian bear populations have fallen, poachers are turning to bears in the U.S. to satisfy a flourishing black market. Each year, 30,000 or more bears are killed illegally in the U.S.

You can ask Representative to sign on as a cosponsor to the Bear Protection Act (H.R. 5534) — bipartisan legislation that would help end this poaching plague. Just visit the web site below:

http://action.defenders.org/endbearpoaching

Poachers target hibernating bears in their dens and even track radio-collared bears that are part of scientific studies. And law enforcement agents report grisly findings: bear carcasses left in the woods with only the gallbladder and other parts removed.

Visit http://action.defenders.org/endbearpoaching and help save our bears!

Thanks, guys!

Dylan: Woodpile Cub

Posted in The Woodpile! with tags , , , , on April 20, 2008 by kurtgroder

What’s your name?: Dylan, but I go by “Noodles and Beef” online.

Where are you from?: Santa Cruz, California. A small beach town 2 hours south of San Francisco.

How old are you?: 21, I’m a Taurus

What’s your ethnic background?: I’m a Filipino + Dutch mutt, with a dash of Creole.

What do you do for a living?: I am the designer for COLT. I do everything from web development to photo shoots to packaging design; if it’s masculine and COLT, I’ve probably had a hand in it.

What do you do for fun?: I love to get lost! Between discovering new places to eat and delving into urban catacombs, exploring is my favorite activity. Runners up: rock climbing and weight lifting

Are you taken?: Recently single. I’m a monogamist-relationship-junkie, never been single for more than a few months.

What kind of guy turns you on?: Blond eyelashes is the hottest thing a man can have. So, naturally, I tend to go for blond bears and cubs.

Do you have any kinks? Fetishes?: Who doesn’t? I *LOVE* gear: leather, bondage, football uniforms, boots, jockstraps…mmm! But, there is nothing quite as nice as making love.

Do you hang out with cubs and bears? You go to bear events?: I’m pretty young, so I haven’t made many bear/cub friends. But, I’m a veteran at bear events. 3 years IBR, 2 years Harrison, and I’m looking forward to my second Lazy Bear this fall.

So you like video games? What gets your heart racing?: Being Filipino, I’m genetically inclined to be awesome at video games. Particularly, Dance Survival games, like Dance Dance Revolution, Space Channel 5 or (my favorite) Para Para Paradise. I used to compete.

Do you like to travel?: LOVE to travel. Do I have the money for it? Nope!

Do you have any guilty pleasures?: Hanging freshly laundered and bleached sheets out in the warm sun to dry. Waking up early on the weekend to make omelets for breakfast. Expensive kinky underwear that I’ll wear only once because they’re too expensive to mess up.

Do you like to party and go out or are you a homebody?: I am very much a homebody. My diet doesn’t let me drink alcohol and I enjoy going to bed early.

What are you looking for in a guy? Hoping to settle down? Start a family?: One day, right? I’m looking for someone that will show me affection, someone that isn’t ashamed to hold my hand in public, or blow me a kiss while we wait in line at Jamba Juice. And loyal to a flaw–a devoted, dependable husband is very sexy.

Freestylin:

Five things to get me going:
1. My nipples are wired to my cock. Just a flick and I’m hard.
2. Whimper, call me daddy, or get on your knees.
3. Get *me* to whimper, call you daddy, or get me on my knees.
4. One drink and I’m flirtatious, two and I’m in your pants.
5. Make out with me in public. The thrill of public sex is super hot.

Dustin: Woodpile Cub

Posted in The Woodpile! with tags , , , , on April 20, 2008 by kurtgroder

What’s your name?: Dustin

Where are you from?: Born and raised in Iowa…corn everywhere!

How old are you?: 24…almost 25. (this means I can rent a car and get insurance)

What’s your ethnic background?: I’m mostly German. I am also a quarter Hispanic, although I don’t think you could ever tell by looking at me.

What do you do for a living?: I do HIV prevention and outreach.

What do you do for fun?: Since mother nature is almost done hatin’ on us with the cold weather you can find me grilling out, camping, kayaking or just sitting outside with friends and drinks. Otherwise I enjoy chill bars where you can actually hear a person talk to you. Dance clubs are fun too though, having friends over and cooking for them, or going out to the movies. I’m a pretty social person, so basically being around people.

What kind of guy turns you on?: In general cubs or muscle cubs with dark hair and dark eyes, big arms, nice lips, and sexy eyes…usually a bit more on the masculine side.

Are you pierced?: Yep, 3 times! Two holes in one ear, and one hole in the other.

What’s the naughtiest thing you’ve ever done?: Haha, this question is gonna make me sound so vanilla. I have given road head to my ex. (we were together at the time) But I’d be up for doing something naughtier if someone would be willing to help.

Do you consider yourself a part of the “bear scene”?: Well, here in good ol’ Iowa there aren’t a lot of bear things going on so it’s hard to be too involved. But I do label myself as a cub.

I see you’re into political issues and activism. Tell us about it?: I got involved in activism in college. I met some people who were pretty politically involved. The more I hung out with them the more I found myself getting involved, lobbying, and organizing events, and noticed I really enjoyed it. It felt pretty rewarding, so I just kept it up.

Who would be your “ideal” president of the US?: Yikes, this is a tough question. It would probably be the state representative, Mary Mascher, that I worked for here in Iowa. She is an amazing legislator and person, and I agree with the majority of her political stances.

Where are your tastes musically?: I can usually find a few songs in every genre that I like…so does that make me eclectic? I guess if I were to pick my favorite I would have to go with Indie music. Give me something acoustic with a nice voice and I’m a sucker for it.

What are you looking for in a guy? One-night or Long-term? Family?: I am not too big into the whole one night stand thing, not that I haven’t or won’t do it, but it’s not my preference. I like the idea of a friend with benefits or something more long term. Eventually I would love to have a partner and a couple little ones. What I look for in a guy is someone who is outgoing, somewhat informed, intelligent, caring, passionate, funny, and can be a dork every now and then. I have a pretty big heart, so I guess I would like to see my guy have to same.

Scottie: Woodpile Cub

Posted in The Woodpile! with tags , , , , , on April 13, 2008 by kurtgroder

What’s your name?: Scottie

Where are you from?: Well, I live in Northglenn, CO. But I travel to Wichita, KS a lot to see my family.

How old are you?: I’m 29.

Ah, a Scorpio. A kindred spirit. Are you a typical Scorp?: I would say I am, but I’m told I tend to lean more toward the dark side.

What’s your ethnic background?: I’m Irish.

What do you do for a living?: I worked in health care, but I’m thinking about going back to school.

What do you do for fun?: I love to read, really love to cook. We just got back from a trip to some National Parks in Utah. We had a lot of fun walking and seeing things.

I see you like karaoke. Are you a singer?: Yes I am, or at least I used to be.

What kind of guy turns you on?: I like younger guys 25-35, on the skinny side, but with a little tummy. And they have to have body hair!

In bed, are you an Indiana Jones, James Bond or Wolverine?: Does Nick Frost count?

So you’re an actor? You must be pretty expressive in bed.: I like to be direct and to the point. I hate to pussyfoot around.

Do you hang out with cubs and bears? You go to bear events?: We tend to go to Girth and Mirth events here in Denver. Mostly out to eat.

I see you’re into Sci-Fi and Horror movies. What’s your favorite?: OMG! I have so many! I’m really just a big geek at heart.

What are you looking for in a guy? One-night or Long-term?: Well I have my long-term. We’re open, and have entertained the idea of a third. Any thoughts on that?

Greg: Woodpile Cub

Posted in The Woodpile! with tags , , , , , on April 13, 2008 by kurtgroder

What’s your name?: Greg.

Where are you from?: Winnipeg Manitoba.

How old are you?: 24.

A Canadian, eh? Now why do I find that soooo sexy?: Because we ARE sexy. No, but on the serious, it’s probably just our reputation for being fun, friendly folk I guess. Oh, and we brew good beer. You’d have to decide for yourself why you think that is and let me know.

What’s your ethnic background?: Pretty run of the mill Scottish/Irish mutt. I’m told I have a bit of Czechoslovakian in me (not sure though whether it’s Czech or Slovak, the end of the Cold War kind of got me wondering).

What do you do for a living?: I’m a student. I’ll be graduating with my bachelor’s degree in Economics next month. I also two part time jobs as a writing skills tutor and a teaching assistant at the university. I’ve been accepted to Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and am excited to be moving there in August.

What do you do for fun?: Nothing that ought to raise any eyebrows. I enjoy movies (my favourite film is Eternal Sunshine, and I recently fell in love with There Will Be Blood), music (anything in the realm of anti-folk, but my tastes are pretty eclectic), theatre, travel. I work out four days a week, and love to hike, cycle, rollerblade and run.

Are you a bad boy in bed or strictly a gentleman?: I’ve been told that I’m pretty good when I’m bad. Let’s be honest, the bedroom is no place for gentlemen.

What kind of guy turns you on?: Masculinity is my only real deal-breaker. Otherwise, I find a lot of different types of men attractive. I will admit that intelligent, funny, tall, bearded, beefy and solid, confident men almost ALWAYS make me melt into a puddle on the floor.

Tell us about your ink?: I have two tattoos - the one you can see on my chest I’ve had since I was 17, it means ‘memory’ in Japanese. I’m thinking about getting something put over it eventually. I also have a tattoo on my right calf that says “No Day But Today”. That one I had done when I was 20. Ink can be pretty hot on the right guy.

Any piercings we should know about?: None whatsoever.

Do you hang out with cubs and bears? You go to bear events?: I definitely enjoy hanging out with cubs and bears. I went to my first bear event last year near New York City and am heading to my second this May: Bear Pride in Chicago. I’m told it’s a great event and that Chicago is a fun city.

Do you like to travel?: I do. Time constraints usually keep me from traveling as much as I’d like but I get all over Canada regularly and to New York every year or so. I’m pretty adventurous and would travel almost anywhere in the world given the opportunity.

So who’s got the best bear men in the world?: I have no clue. Ask me again after I’ve had a chance to travel some more. I’m told Spain is home to a lot of woofy men.

What are you looking for in a guy? One-night or Long-term?: All of the above. Strong, close friendships are one of the most important necessities and so those are my priority. That being said, if only one night is on the table, bring it on (though we don’t have to do it on the table). My hope is to be in a long-term relationship with a great guy sooner or later. In the meantime I’m open-minded and warm-blooded.

Posted in The Woodpile! with tags , , , , , , , on April 6, 2008 by kurtgroder

What’s your name?: Payton

Where are you from?: Anchorage, Alaska now but I moved here from Kaneohe, Hawaii when I was five.

How old are you?: Thirty in May.

What’s your ethnic heritage?: Samoan

What do you do for a living?: I’m a full time student and I work part time in a medical supply warehouse.

What do you do for fun?: I’m a huge volleyball freak. Been playing forever. Right now I’m getting into tennis.

Ya single?: Unfortunately, yes.

Do you have any cub buds?: Don’t really have many friends in the community. It’s pretty much just me and my best friend. We’re the queer Thelma and Louise I guess.

What turns you on?: Intelligence. A man who can hold a great conversation and keep me on my toes is a real turn on.

Got any tattoos? Piercings?: I have a few tattoos here and there. I’m Samoan…we pretty much invented the thing. (laughs) As far as piercing, just my ears.

What’s your guilty pleasure?: An RLE burger from Tommy’s. God, that’s got to be the best thing in the world. That and XTube. Check me out. I’m rocketman57. (wicked smile)

Are you a musician or just into music?: I come from a long line of musicians. Sadly, I’m the only one with no musical talent.

I read that you’re getting into tennis. How’s that going?: It’s improving. I’m spending less time in the bushes looking for my balls. Take that how you want to I guess. (another wicked grin)

So…Family Guy. What character do you identify with most?: Everybody loves Stewie. He’s a crazy mess. I love that kid. I also like Quagmire. He’s a bit of a perv, but it’s funny.

What’s your life like five years from now?: Five years from now I hope to be well on my way to finishing my professional degree and getting ready to enter into a career in the health care industry. Maybe a man by my side contemplating kids and a ranch and some horses and ducks. Okay not really all that, but yeah…working on a family would be cool.

Give us a quote: People who laugh at your dreams are just jealous that you’re not afraid to dream them.
